Part of my job as a writer is to dream up new ideas. Sometimes it’s easy, other times it takes a bit of time to cement things together in my mind so that everything ties in correctly for a storyline.
This means I get to lay back, close my eyes and imagine. I day dream. Maybe even have a little nap.
And I can call this work. 😉
Sounds sweet, right? Most times its really is. Sometimes it’s super frustrating because the characters won’t do what you want them to (usually they’re right), something else keeps cropping up in my head or then there is the dreaded writers block.
However, I have found an easy tip for managing writers block if it isn’t too severe. I make a list of three things that need to happen in the chapter and do whatever it takes to get those three things to happen. Even if I have to force the characters or can’t come up with a daydream about it.
So far this simple method has worked really well and helped me to achieve ten thousand words last weekend.
But my favourite method is to sit back, relax and dream. After all, I’m working.

Happy dreaming,
Josephine
